Use your expertise to speed the digitisation of vital health records
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT ), is the largest acute trust in the UK, with over 25,000 staff caring for over million patients a year. Combining 10 hospitals and community services from across Greater Manchester, we provide outstanding patient care and services.
Our ambition is to build on our leading initiatives and revolutionise the way we work together. That’s why we’re embarking on a programme of unprecedented transformation that will see cutting-edge digital solutions integrated across all our sites and services. This is an opportunity to develop your skills at the forefront of advances in healthcare management.
You’ll work in one of the most progressive and innovative Informatics departments in the NHS, backed by significant multi-million pound investment. From introducing enterprise-wide Electronic Patient Records (EPR) to data warehousing and business intelligence that support the decision-making of clinical and operational staff, we’re using technology to increase organisational efficiency and improve patient health outcomes.
The role
We utilise an electronic patient record across the MFT organisation, to help us provide better quality and continuity of care – wherever patients are treated. A key member of this ongoing transformation, you’ll extract diagnostic, procedural and surgical information from patient records, ensuring they are properly coded for digital records. Often working with very complex material, you’ll ensure high-quality records while adhering closely to the rules, regulations and convention of clinical coding. You’ll also work closely with clinicians and senior managers to develop coding policies and guidelines. Moving forwards you will be working with our new EPIC EPR system to provide you with more information electronically.
Skills & knowledge required
This is meticulous, analytical work that requires up-to-date knowledge of clinical coding, as well as a working knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. Having passed the National Clinical Coding Examination (ACC), you’ll be able to code a range of specialities to a high degree of accuracy. Along with outstanding attention to detail, you’ll have excellent communication skills and the ability to influence senior managers and clinicians. And, in a role where you’ll continue to develop your expertise by attending regular specialist workshops and refresher courses, you’ll need to be ready to learn.
MFT is one of the largest NHS Trust In England with a turnover of £2.6bn & is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We’re creating an exceptional integrated health & social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.
Bringing together 10 hospitals & community services from across Manchester, Trafford & beyond, we champion collaborative working & transformation, encouraging our 28,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate so you’ll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.
We’ve also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient & staff experience, operational effectiveness & driving research, and innovation through the introduction of Hive; our Electronic Patient Record system which launched in September 2022.
We’re proud to be a major academic Research Centre & Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What’s more, we’re excited to be embarking on our Green Plan which sets out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.
